Tom (46 year) - Nationality: British - July 18, 2001

"I quit smoking on 16th February 2001. This is now one of those dates that stick in my memory. I smoked for 25 years and stopping was one of the greatest achievements of my life. Like most smokers, I never thought I would be able to stop. I actually had help from a 'wonder drug' called Zyban. There has been a lot of publiciy about Zyban here in the UK. There are a number of side effects. Those which I suffered were slight stomach cramps for the first few days of taking the drug, a touch of insomnia and sometimes I felt a little dazed and confused. I know some people have had worse side effects but I am so glad I was able to suffer these and I am now extremely pleased to be able to call myself a 'non- smoker'. I find in the UK, more so than in the US, people will offer you a cigarette. I take great pride now in saying "No thank you, I don't smoke!" Good luck to everyone else who is trying to quit. If you really want to, you'll get there!"
